Foothills Course

NC

The 9-hole Foothills course at the Governors Club facility in Chapel Hill features 3,346 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus (1990) and Gus Grantham (1989) and represents one of three nine-hole courses comprising the larger 27-hole property. The nine features very hilly terrain and is not walkable for most players due to the spacing and slopes. The course features a fair number of ponds to avoid, and the two par threes are short but challenging, with one over water featuring bunkers front and back to catch wayward shots. The Foothills is the more memorable nine of the three combinations at Governors Club. The 333-438 yard, par-4, 11th is long and narrow requiring two very good shots. The par-5, 13th features a do-or-die third shot that flies across a ravine to a steeply-faced green, with little chance of recovery from a short miss. The course permits four-season play with mild winters allowing year-round play on the championship Jack Nicklaus Signature course.
