The Blackheath course is a par 71 layout designed by Dan Maples that challenges players with its undulating fairways, water coming into play on 13 holes, a total of 9 doglegs and bunkers guarding every green. The course measures 6,632 yards and opened in its current layout in 1999. The course is designed as a links style layout with rolling fairways lined by Colonial style homes and mature oaks, sycamores and maples. Located near Williamsburg, Virginia, the course features dramatic water hazards throughout, with particularly memorable characteristics including the picturesque 12th hole and the signature 18th hole, which features an island green finish.

Dan Maples created the Blackheath from an existing nine of the former Gold Course and a complete new nine holes. The course's defining characteristics include the extensive use of water hazards, strategic bunkering, and a demanding design that requires course knowledge and precision shot-making. Blackheath is part of Ford's Colony Country Club, an idyllic oasis with 54 holes of golf on three championship courses. The course is recognized as one of the most scenic and challenging layouts at the facility, offering a comprehensive test of golfing ability across its 18-hole routing.
