The Blue Heron Course is an 18-hole, Par 72 championship layout designed by Dan Maples and opened in June 2000. Located minutes from historic Williamsburg, Virginia, the course winds through dense wetlands, creating a unique natural setting that serves as habitat for diverse bird and fish species. The course features generous fairways with long, challenging par 3s, fair par 4s, and intimidating par 5s. Recent renovations include new Champion Bermuda greens that provide consistent playing surfaces throughout the year.

Blue Heron is the longest of the three courses at Ford's Colony Country Club, measuring 6,954 yards with a slope rating of 133. The course design is characterized as "gorgeous to look at, fun to play, yet difficult to score on." A signature hole is the par-5 fourth, considered the toughest on the course, which features a water hazard behind a fairway bunker off the tee. The course layout emphasizes strategic shot-making with well-protected greens that reward accuracy more than length. Blue Heron is part of the semi-private Ford's Colony facility, which features 54 holes across three distinct Dan Maples championship courses.
