Douglas Valley Golf Club is a 9-hole par 32 course located in Blackrod, Bolton, in the West Pennine Moors area of Lancashire. Opened in August 1996, the course was designed by local course designer Jeff Shuttleworth and constructed by Craig Cooke, who previously worked on Loch Lomond and Valderama. Built to US specification, the course features pure sand greens—the only one of its kind in the area. Three purpose-built lakes and the River Douglas, which splits the course in two, create interesting and challenging play. The layout is suitable for both beginners seeking safer routes and experienced golfers seeking adventure. The setting is notably tranquil, with the Pennine hills providing a scenic backdrop and the course hosting diverse wildlife including Canada Geese and occasional deer. The course benefits from views overlooking Winter Hill, a prominent Lancashire landmark. Douglas Valley is affiliated with the EGU and EWGA, offering official handicap facilities. The club hosts regular weekly summer competitions and welcomes non-members to compete. The course is positioned along the mountains in South Central Pennsylvania, located just 8 miles from the PA turnpike. The course is surrounded by the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River and has been the nesting place for Bald Eagles. Down River features flat terrain with slanted greens and allows for an enjoyable experience for players of all skill levels. Throughout the golfing season, the course hosts tournaments, league play, and other golfing events. The family-owned course maintains well-groomed fairways and greens, offering both challenging and accessible holes for the range of golfer abilities.
