The course totals 7,180 yards, a challenge for even the most skilled golfer. However, there are five sets of tees, allowing for an enjoyable experience for all skill levels. A complement to the dramatic vistas throughout the course, several holes play adjacent to a large, prairie nature preserve, and others overlook Lake Sumter and Lake Sumter Landing. Located approximately 20 miles north of London, the course features rolling terrain with significant elevation changes, passing through mature woodland including Hornbeam, Scots Pine, Corsican Pine, and 500-year-old Oak trees that create a distinctive parkland setting framed by these ancient specimen trees. The course presents a considerable challenge with a course rating of 74.0 and slope rating of 130, characterized by strategically positioned bunkers and undulating greens rather than water hazards. Notable holes include the par-3 5th and 14th which play downhill, the uphill par-3 8th tucked amongst trees, the par-5 9th with greenside bunkers defending an approach in two shots, and the distinctive par-4 12th featuring an unusual chalk face approximately 100 yards from the green that requires precise approach shot placement. The design emphasizes a thinking golfer's course with multiple routing options off the tee. Brocket Hall is situated on a 543-acre estate and operates two championship courses, with the Palmerston providing a contrasting layout to the earlier Melbourne Course. The course is primely located at Exit 8 on the M7, situated on a former stud farm in County Kildare. Palmetto Golf Club, founded in 1892 in Aiken, South Carolina, is the oldest continually operated eighteen-hole golf course in its original location in the Southeast and likely the second oldest in the United States. The course began with four holes laid out by Thomas Hitchcock in 1892, expanding to nine holes designed by Herbert Leeds and completed to eighteen holes in 1895 with contributions from James Mackrell. The par 71 layout measures 6,695 yards from championship tees, characterized by small elevated and undulating greens with strategically placed bunkers. Notable design work includes contributions from Donald Ross (1928) and Alister MacKenzie (1932), who converted sand greens to grass.
