Palmetto, designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, opened in 1985 as the fourth course at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club in Savannah, Georgia. The 18-hole course measures 6,941 yards and plays to a par 72, earning recognition among members as the most challenging layout in the club's portfolio.

The course's strategic design divides into distinct sections: the opening six holes present immediate difficulty from the tee, while holes seven through fifteen provide relative relief before the final three holes return to demanding play. Golfers navigate through island terrain rich with natural beauty and historical significance. Notable features include a spectacular oak tree on the 10th hole and the 13th hole, where Philip Delegal's grave represents one of eight archeological sites on the property.

In 2005, the course underwent comprehensive renovations including new concrete cart paths, updated irrigation and drainage systems, rebuilt bunkers, a bulkhead around the 5th green, and an additional tee set to enhance playability options.
