Surrey 2 upcoming events

Surrey National Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course located at Rook Lane, Chaldon, near Caterham in Surrey, just minutes from Junction 6 of the M25. Opened in 1999, the course was designed by David Williams on a site formerly known as Happy Valley Golf Course. It covers in excess of 200 acres and plays to a par of 72, stretching to around 6,858 yards from the championship tees and approximately 6,300 yards from the daily play tees, with a course rating of 73.7 and a slope of 134. The course was constructed to USGA specification throughout, including greens, drainage systems, and computer-controlled irrigation, with the explicit intention of being capable of hosting major competitions. The course occupies two dramatic valleys that merge at the northern end of the property, with holes running along both valleys and ridges, offering views across Farthing Downs and the wider North Downs landscape. Despite the pronounced contours of the terrain, the routing has been designed so that the vast majority of holes play either level or downhill, with the one notable exception being a short pitch to the raised green on the par-4 second. Two lakes are incorporated into the layout, influencing play on several holes, and the tree-lined fairways place a premium on accuracy from the tee throughout the round. The par-3 third is widely regarded as the signature hole, requiring a carry of more than 150 yards across water from the championship tee. Among the par 4s, the sixth and sixteenth holes are considered the most demanding, with the sixth being notable for its absence of bunkers. The course offers three par 3s and three par 5s across the 18 holes. Surrey National is part of the Altonwood Group and operates as a pay-and-play venue welcoming visitors, society days, and corporate golf alongside its membership.
