The course's name derives from Native American lore associated with Spook Rock Road; it was designed and constructed by Frank Duane, with the front nine opening in 1969 and the full eighteen holes completed in 1970. The course was later redesigned with major changes by Stephen Kaye. The course features water hazards on 7 of its holes, numerous sand bunkers both in the fairways and surrounding the greens, and tightly tree-lined fairways.
