Omni La Costa Golf Club

CA

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa offers 36 spectacular holes of golf at the North Course (formerly known as Champions) and South Course (formerly known as Legends), located in Carlsbad, north of San Diego. The resort's planners had invited architect Dick Wilson to design a 72-par, 7,200-yard golf course when the original North Course opened in 1965. The North course has recently been remodeled (2024) by Gil Hanse and will be the home for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 Men's and Women's NCAA Division 1 Golf Championships. The North Course includes six sets of tees playing from 4500 to 7500 yards, while the South Course stretches 6,996 yards from the tips and is a parkland style course that features mature trees, gentle doglegs, and water features on both nines. Hanse/Wagner added many of their signature features, including native areas, barranca and falloff areas around the greens. The North Course is a links-style layout with wide fairways and minimal rough, with small, elevated greens requiring accurate approach shots and numerous deep bunkers guarding the greens. In contrast, the South is narrower, and accuracy off the tee and strategic positioning of the ball are crucial to avoid being blocked out by trees. The resort is the former host of over 37 PGA Tour Events. The resort began hosting the Tournament of Champions in 1969, with the last tournament held in 1998, which was long considered the "Super Bowl of Golf" requiring players to win a PGA Tour event the preceding year in order to qualify. Legendary names like Player, Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson, Miller, Mickelson, and Woods have all won at La Costa.
