Located in Ono, Hyogo Prefecture, Ono Toyo Golf Club is a 7,233-yard, par-72 championship course designed by renowned architect Osamu Ueda. Opened in 1971, the facility is a hilly layout featuring Bentgrass greens and is rated as a challenging test for golfers, with a JGA Course Rating of 75.3 from the back tees. The course is known for its demanding nature, having hosted the prestigious 2011 Japan Professional Golf Championship, and has also served as a venue for the Panasonic Open Golf Championship in 2022 and 2023, as well as the Kansai Open Golf Championship in 2018. The front nine presents a mix of strategic challenges, beginning with a short par-4 that requires precise placement to avoid bunkers. The third hole, a par-3, is considered the most difficult on the front nine due to its small, sloping green and difficult wind conditions. The hole is followed by a long par-4 that plays as a significant uphill shot to a tiered green. The front nine concludes with the ninth hole, a demanding par-4 that requires a carry over water, with the second shot playing uphill to a two-tiered green. The back nine features several memorable holes, including the eighth, a par-3 that requires a carry over a valley and is often played into a headwind. The twelfth hole is a short par-3 surrounded by bunkers on all sides, where wind direction can be difficult to judge from the tee. The thirteenth hole, a par-4, is played through a bamboo forest and requires strict fairway accuracy to avoid difficult approaches. The eighteenth hole serves as a dramatic finish, playing as a long par-4 to a three-tiered, elevated green that often decides the outcome of the round. Throughout the course, the landscape is defined by varied terrain and seasonal flora, including cherry blossoms, azaleas, and maple trees. The design emphasizes natural beauty while maintaining a high level of difficulty, with many holes featuring blind shots, severe slopes, and strategic bunkering. The course is played with caddies and riding carts, offering a traditional yet comfortable experience for members and guests.
