Designed by Rees Jones, Pinehurst No. 7 opened in 1986 and underwent renovations in 2002. Comprised of two out and back loops, No. 7 is a par 72 course and clocks in at 7,216 yards. The course features some of the most rugged land in Pinehurst Village, including 75 bunkers and 25 acres of wetlands, with large and undulating greens and more elevation changes than any other Pinehurst course, with 13 of the greens being elevated. The course presents a significant challenge with consistent elevation changes throughout the round.

Tee shots are generally downhill, approach shots are usually uphill, and Jones' routing takes on a steady rhythm that makes No. 7 a joy to play. Notable features include the "Devil's Gut," a large expanse of wetlands on the short, par-four seventh that your approach must clear. There's also the double-dogleg, par-five 12th with an elevated green surrounded by trees and underbrush.

At the 1992 Big I Junior Classic, it became the site of Tiger Woods' only Pinehurst victory. The course is located approximately a mile from the main resort clubhouse and features its own practice facilities. Jones incorporated the area's rugged terrain into the design, making No. 7 one of Pinehurst's longest and biggest tests for any golfer.
