Pinehurst No. 9 was designed by Jack Nicklaus and is the only Nicklaus course in the North Carolina Sandhills region. Originally opened in 1989 as the National Golf Club, this course was acquired by Pinehurst in 2014. A par 72 measuring 7,118 yards, the course features wide, tree-lined fairways and undulating greens.
The course is set among the pines with natural areas, water hazards, and elevated and undulating green complexes that make No. 9 one of Pinehurst's more challenging courses. With relatively few waste areas and some interesting water hazards, No. 9 is a challenging course. Differing in style from the eight other Pinehurst courses, No. 9 is a Jack Nicklaus signature design featuring bentgrass greens, forgiving fairways and five sets of tees. The course has not hosted major championships but serves as part of the Pinehurst Resort's collection of championship-caliber courses.
