Pinehurst Resort is a golf resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina, United States. The resort consists of ten 18-hole golf courses, each named simply by a number, an 18 hole putting course, and a 9-hole short course. Pinehurst No. 2, the flagship course, measures 7,551 yards and is a Donald Ross design. The course is characterized by its iconic sloped turtleback greens and wide fairways with native wiregrass and sand. Water comes into sight on only one hole and is not in play, while the course is not particularly long, though the rough is native sandscape and wire grass. Pinehurst No. 2 has served as the site of more single golf championships than any other course in America, hosting back-to-back U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open Championships in 2014 and the 2024 U.S. Open. The resort has hosted a number of prestigious golf tournaments including four U.S. Open Championships, one U.S. Women's Open, three U.S. Amateurs, one PGA Championship, and the Ryder Cup. The first course was begun in 1897 by Dr. Leroy Culver and John Dunn Tucker, with Donald Ross stepping in to finish in 1901. Several notable golf course architects have designed courses for the resort, including Donald Ross, Ellis Maples, Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, and Gil Hanse.
