The Country Club of Virginia is a private country club located in Richmond, Virginia, spanning 1,111 acres and containing three eighteen-hole golf courses. The club features three golf courses: the Westhampton Course, James River Course, and Tuckahoe Creek Course. Westhampton opened on June 18, 1910, originally designed by Herbert Barker and redesigned by Donald Ross in 1920. Westhampton plays to a maximum yardage of 6,214 yards from the blue tees with a slope rating of 127. The James River Course first opened on June 30, 1928, designed by William Flynn, and became a championship course hosting numerous tournaments including the 1955 and 1975 USGA Men's Amateur Championships. Flynn's design features nine holes from the more level Valley course on the front nine and nine holes from the more undulating Hill course on the back nine. Tuckahoe Creek Course opened in 1988, designed by Joseph L. Lee and Rocky Roquemore, as a par-72 layout playing to 6,933 yards.
Westhampton possesses gently rolling fairways carved out of majestic pine and oak forests with small, sloping greens that can make putting difficult, especially from above the pin. Tuckahoe Creek features 76 bunkers and seven lakes and a creek that affect play throughout the course, requiring accurate iron play and smooth putting to negotiate the large, undulating greens. The James River Course has hosted many prominent events, including the 1955 and 1975 U.S. Amateurs and, since 2016, the annual Dominion Energy Charity Classic.
