Union League Golf Club

PA

The 18-hole Union League course at the The Union League Golf Club At Torresdale facility in Philadelphia features 6,301 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. The course was designed by Donald Ross in 1920 and opened in 1921, with a restoration completed by Stephen Kay from 2014-17. The course is located just 12 miles northeast of Center City Philadelphia. Originally called Torresdale-Frankford Country Club, the course was a joining of two nine-hole layouts that began in the late 1890s, with the Ross design opening over a 200-acre parcel of land featuring two creeks running throughout the property. The par-70 layout has markers from 4,895 yards up to 6,609 yards and features a surprising amount of roll and elevation change so that every shot commands attention. For over 100 years, Torresdale has proved to be a tough test with every hole precisely placed over its rolling terrain. The course was largely neglected until 2014 when the Union League of Philadelphia acquired it and undertook a comprehensive restoration. Key events held at the course include the Philadelphia Open (1938, 54, 74, 86, 2000), Henry Hurst Invitational (1941), and Philadelphia Amateur Championship (1967, 1987, 2006). Sam Snead holds the course record of 64, which he set during the 1941 Philadelphia Open.
