The course was designed by renowned architect E. Lawrence Packard, with the original nine holes constructed in 1951-1952 and an additional nine holes added in 1960 to create the full 18-hole layout. The course is situated on historically significant property that once served as a stagecoach stop between Louisville and Shelbyville, with an old family graveyard and occasional Indian artifacts found on the grounds. The terrain features rolling pastureland with multiple water hazards, including a signature lake hole that was enhanced during renovations in 2006. The club underwent major renovations in 1995-1997, including the replacement of bent grass fairways with Zoysia grass and the addition of more water holes. The practice facilities were completely renovated and expanded in 2006.
