Trump International Golf Club, Dubai

Dubai 1 upcoming event

Trump International Golf Club Dubai is an 18-hole, par-71 championship course measuring 7,205 yards from the back tees, located within the DAMAC Hills development near Dubai Sports City. Designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner - Hanse having also designed the 2016 Rio Olympics course - it opened in early 2017 as the first new 18-hole layout in Dubai for seven years. The course carries a rating of 73.9 and slope of 131, with Bermudagrass throughout. Carved from 500 acres of previously flat, barren desert, the design required significant earthmoving to introduce the elevation changes, undulation, and drainage systems that give the course its character. The routing takes a links-influenced approach, with wide fairways, strategic bunkering, waste areas, and large, notably undulating greens that present a significant challenge on and around the putting surfaces. Water features prominently on several holes, with both the 9th and 18th closing around a central lake in front of the 30,000 square foot clubhouse. Notable holes include the short par-4 8th, played to a raised and awkward green, the par-4 13th where the green is entirely surrounded by sand, and the par-3 17th requiring a carry over water to a well-protected green. The front nine fairways are shared in places, with the 1st and 9th running as a double fairway. The facility also includes a floodlit 9-hole par-3 Academy course and Dubai's first TrackMan driving range.

The club was established in 1973 and no notable designer is attributed to the layout. The course occupies largely flat, easy-walking terrain on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, providing views of the surrounding countryside without significant elevation change. Water hazards are a defining characteristic, with reed-lined lakes positioned closely alongside several greens, demanding accurate approach play throughout the round. Tree planting further tightens the approach corridors to many holes, adding to the difficulty despite the course's modest length. The signature hole is the par-4 15th, the stroke index 1 hole, which doglegs sharply 90 degrees to the left with the green guarded by both bunkers and water, requiring precision even after a good drive. The 16th, a par three, demands an accurate tee shot to a two-tier green.
