La Barganiza

Asturias / Asturies

Real Club de Golf La Barganiza was first registered with the Spanish Golf Federation in 1982. The club's original 9-hole layout was designed by Víctor García de la Cruz and was later extended to its present 18-hole configuration by Javier Núñez Martínez. The course stretches to 5,607 metres from the back markers, playing to a par of 70 with holes arranged as two returning nines. Located in the council of Siero, the course is 12 km from Oviedo and 14 km from Gijón. The course is set in a traditional Cantabrian setting, with modest hills and breathtaking views of the Picos de Europa mountains, the Cantabrian Shore, and Mount Aramo. Although it's not a long course, accuracy is the main requirement as each fairway is tree-lined. The 18-hole course features a great variety of types of trees generating a wide range of colours. During play, golfers encounter a wide variety of different shots due to the orography of the terrain and different sizes of the holes, making the course very entertaining with each hole having its own personality. Notable holes include the very short par three 8th, the very narrow downhill par four 15th which offers a good birdie chance, and the only par five on the back nine at the 472-metre 17th. A highlight is the 12th hole, a par 3 with a green surrounded by chestnut trees. Recent renovations include the refurbishment of the 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th, and 18th tee boxes, the planting of over 2000 trees and plants of more than 300 different varieties, and new lakes on the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 13th holes.

Club de Golf La Cañada is an 18-hole parkland course situated within the Sotogrande estate near Guadiaro, in the municipality of San Roque, Cádiz. The course opened in 1982 with an original nine holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the architect responsible for the nearby Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. A second nine was added in 2002, designed by Dave Thomas, whose other local work includes San Roque Old Course. The full layout plays to a par of 71 and stretches to approximately 5,917 metres from the back tees, with a slope rating of 128 for men. It was the first municipal golf course on the Costa del Sol, developed to provide more accessible golf within the otherwise exclusive Sotogrande estate. The terrain is gently undulating rather than flat, making it comfortably walkable, and the course winds through tree-lined fairways featuring a mix of indigenous species including cork and olive trees. Bermuda grass fairways lead to fast, heavily contoured bent grass greens that are widely considered the standout feature of the layout. Water hazards and bunkering add variety throughout, and the course's elevated position provides views across the Guadiaro River valley and the Mediterranean Sea. The signature hole is the par-4 18th, which demands a tee shot carrying a large ravine - the cañada, or gully, from which the course takes its name - before a second shot to an exposed green. The par-3 17th, requiring a carry over a lake to a well-guarded green, is also frequently cited as one of the more memorable challenges on the course. Wind is a significant factor across much of the layout, adding difficulty that the relatively modest yardage might not otherwise suggest.

La Cumbre Golf Club

Designed by Juan Dentone, who also created the Mar del Plata Golf Club, the layout spans 6,011 yards and is set against the backdrop of the local sierras. The course was established in 1924, with its construction beginning on land acquired from the San Gerónimo Estancia. The fairways are planted with Bermuda grass, while the greens utilize Tifway turf, providing a surface known for its speed and consistency. The terrain is characterized by a unique design that avoids natural water hazards, relying instead on a significant number of artificial obstacles and dog-legs to challenge players. A distinctive feature of the course is the use of local grasses to create "contoured cuts" that form island-like areas, forcing golfers to adapt their strategies. The layout includes numerous bunkers and requires precision, with the club maintaining a competitive classification since the installation of a modern irrigation system in the 1980s. The club has a rich tournament history, hosting the first PGA Professional Tour event in Argentina in April 1999. The river's unpredictable positioning throughout the routing makes it a prominent feature that distinguishes the course from typical championship designs. Located just 300 meters from the town center of Morón de Almazán, the course offers an immersive natural setting that combines landscape character with demanding playability. The combination of water hazards, wind exposure, and strategic hole design creates a challenging but engaging experience suitable for players seeking to develop their skills while enjoying the surrounding countryside environment.
