Real Club de Golf La Barganiza was first registered with the Spanish Golf Federation in 1982. The club's original 9-hole layout was designed by Víctor García de la Cruz and was later extended to its present 18-hole configuration by Javier Núñez Martínez. The course stretches to 5,607 metres from the back markers, playing to a par of 70 with holes arranged as two returning nines. Located in the council of Siero, the course is 12 km from Oviedo and 14 km from Gijón.
The course is set in a traditional Cantabrian setting, with modest hills and breathtaking views of the Picos de Europa mountains, the Cantabrian Shore, and Mount Aramo. Although it's not a long course, accuracy is the main requirement as each fairway is tree-lined. The 18-hole course features a great variety of types of trees generating a wide range of colours. During play, golfers encounter a wide variety of different shots due to the orography of the terrain and different sizes of the holes, making the course very entertaining with each hole having its own personality.
Notable holes include the very short par three 8th, the very narrow downhill par four 15th which offers a good birdie chance, and the only par five on the back nine at the 472-metre 17th. A highlight is the 12th hole, a par 3 with a green surrounded by chestnut trees. Recent renovations include the refurbishment of the 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th, and 18th tee boxes, the planting of over 2000 trees and plants of more than 300 different varieties, and new lakes on the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 13th holes.
