Hanna Golf & Country Club

Alberta 1 upcoming event

Hanna Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole golf course located in Hanna, Alberta. The course evolved significantly from its humble origins as a 9-hole layout featuring sand greens into a modern championship course. Redesigned by Golf Design Services (Les Furber and Jim Eremko) in the early 1980s, the original nine holes were completely reimagined to create a challenging layout. The expansion to 18 holes was completed in 2006, with the back nine also designed by Golf Design Services after two years of planning and construction. The course is characterized by its prairie setting and demanding conditions, particularly through its signature "amen corner" at holes 5 and 6, which test golfers severely in northwest winds. The layout incorporates several memorable features, including remnants of the original sand greens visible on hole 3. The course underwent major infrastructure improvements including full irrigation installation in the early 1970s and an automated high-output irrigation system in the mid-1990s. Hannastown Golf Club

PA

Hannastown Golf Club was founded by Thomas Jamison, an Oakmont member who lived in Greensburg and wanted a private course. The initial nine holes were built in 1919 by Emil "Dutch" Loeffler, the superintendent at Oakmont Country Club. For 80 years, the club was a 9-hole facility until 1997, when Hannastown added an additional 9 holes. The original 9 was influenced by Loeffler's experience at Oakmont, with fall-away greens, a long par 3 similar to #8 at Oakmont, and a final green tied into the practice putting green. The course is now 6,668 yards and plays to a par of 70, with five par 3s and three par 5s. The course rating is 72.5, and the slope is 132 from the tips. Due to the clubhouse location, the new and old nines had to be intermingled. The old 9 has old-style greens that are pure Poa annua, while the new 9 has USGA-spec greens with bentgrass and smaller greens that feature interesting slopes and mounds. Hannastown Golf Club is a member of the Tri-County Golf Association, which allows play at any member club for a flat fee twice a month.
