Hans Merensky Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course located in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, immediately adjacent to the Kruger National Park. Designed by renowned Bob Grimsdell in 1967, the parkland course spans 6,549 meters and features Bayview grass greens with Cynodon grass fairways. The layout is laid out across gently undulating terrain with well-maintained fairways flanked by semi-rough and bushveld vegetation.
The course is distinguished by its unique wildlife presence, with resident giraffes, hippos, elephants, various antelope species, and crocodiles frequently encountered during play. Water hazards feature live crocodiles and hippos, making these features genuinely perilous. Notable holes include the par-3 8th, which is 155 meters long and guarded by a water hazard inhabited by crocodiles. The course has been voted the best walking course in South Africa and received the Diamond Arrow Award as the highest-rated course in Limpopo.
Hans Merensky regularly hosts professional tournaments, including events on the South African Vodacom Tour, and serves as a popular destination for golf safaris. The experience combines challenging fairways with natural beauty, blending competitive golf with an authentic African safari environment where players may encounter moving hazards ranging from massive elephants to smaller wildlife crossing the rolling fairways.
