Alfred E. Smith Golf Course

NY

The course features 27 holes that may be played as either 9 or 18 holes. The first two courses were built in 1962, followed by the Blue Course in 1964. All three courses were designed by golf course architect Alfred Tull, who also designed the Yellow course and redesigned the Blue course at Bethpage State Park. Tull preferred to utilize the natural lay of the land, bringing the existing terrain into his design, and golfers can expect a somewhat hilly and variable layout surrounded by mature woodlands, offering an attractive and relaxing experience for their golf round. In addition to the beautiful woodland setting, Sunken Meadow's driving range offers expansive panoramic views of the Long Island Sound. The 27 holes split up into three nines – Red, Green and Blue. The golf courses play up and down the hills of Suffolk County's north shore. Most holes play through heavily wooded corridors, though there is usually plenty of room to keep shots safe between the tree lines. 18-hole rounds at Sunken Meadow top out just over 6,000 yards in length and are fair for all skill levels. The courses are intended to serve golfers of a moderate skill level. While maintenance and operation of the golf facilities is kept at an excellent level, they are not maintained at championship level. The courses provide an enjoyable outing with moderate challenges, but not punishing for those who make errant shots.
