The course first opened to play as a 9-hole course in July 1967. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, and the course is not too difficult, so the average golfer will find playing here enjoyable. A few well placed ponds and green side bunkers also made accurate approach shots a necessity. Cedar Point Club is located at the confluence of the Nansemond and James Rivers in Suffolk, Virginia. The Civil War ironclads, Monitor and Merrimac, battled in the waters of Hampton Roads just outside the clubhouse windows.
