Starr Pass Golf Course

AZ

Designed by Craig Stadler and Bob Cupp, the original 18 holes opened in 1986 as TPC at Starr Pass, hosting the 1987 Tucson Open. Arnold Palmer designed additional 9-hole course at Starr Pass in 2005, with nine new holes formally named Roadrunner. The three nines wind their way through mountains and arroyos and are named after desert wildlife: Rattler, Road Runner and Coyote. The 27 holes of Arnold Palmer Signature Golf have been meticulously restored to championship-level play. All of the hazards are completely natural elements of the environment. Starr Pass Golf Club was the host facility for the PGA Tour's Tucson Open from 1988 to 1995. Notable tournament winners included Larry Mize in 1993, Andrew Magee in 1994, and Phil Mickelson, who won multiple times. Phil Mickelson's 1991 victory resulted in Starr Pass becoming a significant part of golf history as he was still an amateur and student at Arizona State University, becoming the fourth golfer in PGA history to achieve this accomplishment as an amateur. The course features new TifEagle Bermuda greens to enhance consistency and speed, as well as rebuilt bunkers, resurfaced cart paths, and revitalized bridges.

The greens throughout are relatively flat but feature tricky speeds that challenge putters on both nines. The course's distinctive name originates from its original back nine greens, which were shaped like different U.S. states, with hole 17—the course's only water hole—historically designed as Michigan. States Golf Course is player-friendly and suitable for golfers of all abilities and ages. The family-owned and operated course, managed by the Jasiak family since 1982, underwent significant renovation following a fire in 2009, with a new clubhouse completed in 2010.
