All the greens are mature, with subtle to severe undulations on each, and all roll true and fast. Donald Ross Associates, revered as one of the greatest golf course architect firms of any era, designed the golf course, with the first nine holes opened in June of 1949 and the current front nine in early 1950. The course hosts the Annual Invitational Golf Tournament, which has been contested for over 50 years and has grown to be one of the most renowned in Tennessee.

The layout of the course is open and, except for out-of-bounds along a couple fairways, is not penalizing, with very playable rough. Hole 7 is a 553 yard par 5 with water hazards that require strategic placement. Hole 8 is a 350 yard par 4 that features a signature cottonwood tree that can block approach shots. Located at 10360 West Main Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan, less than 10 miles west of downtown Kalamazoo, the course features wide-open bluegrass fairways and large bent grass greens. Ridgeview is known as a player-friendly course with fairways free of water hazards, a few well-placed bunkers, and four sets of tee boxes allowing each player to complete the course with the same ball.
