Located in Northern Kentucky within a few minutes of Florence, Independence, Burlington, Union, Covington, Hebron, and Cincinnati, Ohio. The rolling terrain includes streams, woods, and ponds that provide a great variety of holes requiring accuracy, creativity, and discipline. While the course functions as a thinking man's design with few target golf trappings, it rewards aggressive play with scoring opportunities while accommodating conservative, middle-of-the-green strategies. The signature feature is the 441-yard par-4 No. 18 with an over 100-yards-in-length narrow green. The course plays to a par of 71 and includes five par 3s requiring carries, including the 167-yard No. 2 with a green wedged into a hill and large sand trap out front. The course hosted the Kentucky Open in 1996 and 2000, along with the NCAA Regional Championship in 2002 and 2004. Located near Latrobe, Pennsylvania in Unity Township in Westmoreland County, the course is situated south of Latrobe and nearer Youngstown. Originally emerging from a hilly plot of ground as a short but imaginative nine-hole course when founded in 1920-1921, the course was expanded and improved significantly after Arnold Palmer purchased the club in 1971, with many of the holes being revised and lengthened, and a modern irrigation system installed. A picturesque creek comes into play on several challenging holes on the back nine, and the course features beautiful red covered bridges designed by Palmer to provide weather protection, which have become so popular that artists and photographers from across the United States visit to capture their image. The course is where Arnold Palmer learned to play the game of golf from his father. About 75 percent of the trees found on the course today were planted by Deacon Palmer. The course presents a demanding challenge with fast, difficult greens and narrow fairways, and features strategic layouts requiring accurate play off the tee to avoid the dense tree-lined rough.
