The design emphasizes strategic play, with long par-4 holes that allow for aggressive shots even from average distances. The layout includes a variety of hole types, from wooded sections to those with water hazards, creating a dynamic routing that demands careful club selection and course management. While the fairways are generous, the heavy rough requires accuracy off the tee, making precision a key component of scoring well. The course utilizes two types of Bentgrass greens, B1 and B2, which are used on a rotating schedule to maintain optimal playing conditions throughout the year. Ise Country Club has a significant history in Japanese amateur golf, having hosted the 104th All Japan Amateur Golf Championship. Ise-Shima Country Club

三重県

Located within the Ise-Shima National Park in Shima City, Mie Prefecture, the Ise-Shima Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Kazumi Miura and constructed by Daiwa House Industry. The property spans approximately 840,000 square meters, utilizing the natural forest and terrain to create a layout defined by gentle curves. Opened in August 1994, the course was notable for being the first in the Shima region to adopt mainstream bent grass for its greens, a choice that introduces subtle undulations to the putting surfaces. The routing features a mix of elevation changes and doglegs that test accuracy over raw distance. The front nine includes a demanding par-4 second hole, an uphill left dogleg where players must carry a left-side bunker, and a downhill par-4 fourth hole that encourages a bold line over the mountain to the left. The back nine presents its own challenges, highlighted by the 17th hole, an uphill par-4 that carries over a valley to a three-tiered green. The closing 18th hole is a 518-yard par-5 uphill drive that requires precision to avoid a water hazard on the left side. Significant hazards define the difficulty of the course. The eighth hole is a 162-yard par-3 that requires a carry over water, with a steep back slope that demands a dead shot to hold the green. The 14th hole is a long 430-yard par-4 dogleg left, while the 13th hole is a 196-yard par-3 where avoiding the right side is the primary safety play. Local rules specify that out-of-bounds is marked by white stakes, with a specific provision for the 10th tee shot where crossing the drainage ditch on the right management road incurs a three-stroke penalty from a special tee. The course also features cart paths and drainage ditches as immovable obstructions, with specific relief protocols for electromagnetic cart tracks.

The complex comprises two distinct 18-hole courses — the Old Course and the Links — each with its own character and design philosophy, set within a landscape defined by Atlantic marshland, sand dunes, and natural coastal vegetation. The Old Course was designed by Juan Catarineu and opened in 1992. It plays to a par of 72 over 6,240 metres from the back tees, with a course rating of 73.7 and a slope of 142. Built on flat marshland adjacent to the Isla Canela estero and the surrounding wetlands, the layout is a parkland-style course that is straightforward to walk. Orange, olive, eucalyptus, and palm trees are positioned at strategic points throughout, and the greens are noted for their speed and quality, running at between 10 and 11 on the Stimpmeter in summer. The hole composition includes five par-3s, eight par-4s, and five par-5s, giving it an unusual balance that places a premium on short-game precision as much as length. The Links course opened in 2007, formerly known as the Costa Esuri West Course before coming under the Isla Canela brand. It was designed by José Canales and plays to a par of 72 over 6,540 metres, with a course rating of 75.3 and a slope of 127. Set along the left bank of the Guadiana River north of Ayamonte, it takes a more open, links-influenced approach with wider fairways and views across the river towards Portugal. Water also features prominently here, particularly on the back nine. The finishing hole, a left-turning par-5, leads to a green heavily protected by bunkers.
