The Island Course at The Clubs of Kingwood in Kingwood, Texas is an 18-hole championship course designed by Joe Finger and opened in 1974. Located approximately 30 minutes north of Houston, it features a par 72 layout with yardage ranging from approximately 7,200 to 7,300 yards and a slope rating of around 135. The course is characterized by tight, tree-lined fairways, significant water hazards including lakes and ponds, and bunkers strategically positioned throughout the layout.
The Island Course is renowned for two exceptional holes that have garnered national recognition. Hole No. 6, a double-dogleg par 5, was named "National Hole of the Year" by the Golf Course Architects Society of America. The signature finishing hole, No. 18, is a challenging 576-yard par 5 featuring an island green and has been recognized by Golf Digest as one of golf's toughest finishing holes. The course has been ranked among the top 50 courses in Texas by the Dallas Morning News.
The course was featured in the 1996 film "Tin Cup," adding to its cinematic legacy. Known for its difficulty and scenic setting with natural beauty featuring lakes, rivers, and abundant wildlife, the Island Course provides a rigorous test for golfers of all skill levels while offering four sets of tee boxes to accommodate varying abilities.
