The landscape transitions dramatically from open meadow prairies to hardwood forests, farmland, and lake views, offering breathtaking panoramic vistas throughout the round. Each hole possesses its own character and personality. The course is particularly noted for five exceptional finishing holes, with the 17th hole serving as a signature hole with spectacular lake views.
The terrain includes farmland prairies, low-lying wetlands, rolling pastures, creeks, streams, and thick forests. Island Hills is positioned in Michigan's Amish country midway between Chicago and Detroit. The course features a practice range facility rated in the top 25 in Michigan, including a driving range with large turf areas, an undulating putting green, chipping area, and practice bunker. The design emphasizes playability and scenic beauty, making it accessible while maintaining visual distinction between holes.
