Situated at an elevation of 600 meters, Ikuno Kogen Country Club is a highland course designed by Yoshio Machida and opened in September 1964. The 18-hole layout, played to a par 72, is characterized by a distinct split in terrain and atmosphere. The front nine traverses undulating hills, presenting a true丘陵 (hilly) course experience where control and precision are paramount. In contrast, the back nine transitions into a more open, forested environment with flatter ground, though it still demands accuracy off the tee. The course features a single Bentgrass green, which plays firm and fast, particularly in the cool mountain air. The opening hole sets the tone for the front nine with a demanding 420-yard par 4 from the back tees. This downhill middle hole requires a cautious drive to avoid a lateral water hazard on the left, while the approach shot must navigate around guards near the green. The difficulty ramps up significantly at the ninth hole, a 413-yard par 4 that features a severe 17-yard uphill approach to a challenging three-tiered green. Misreading the slopes here can lead to difficult putts, making it a critical juncture in the front nine. The back nine offers a different test, highlighted by two long par 4s that serve as the course's signature finishing holes. The 15th is a 409-yard uphill middle hole with a narrow green, requiring a careful approach to avoid the steep drop-offs. The 18th hole, measuring 428 yards from the back tees, is a stern test of nerve. With out-of-bounds lining the right side and a narrow green on the left, it is described as a hole that allows no margin for error, demanding a centered drive and a precise second shot to close out the round. The course is known for its wide fairways, which offer generous landing areas, but the undulating greens and strategic hazards keep scores in check. The setting provides a cool retreat during the summer months, with the surrounding natural springs providing the club with ultra-soft water. While the course does not host major professional tournaments, it regularly hosts local competitions, including the "Captain Cup" and various monthly monthly prize events, maintaining a strong community presence in the Hyogo region.
