Willow Creek Golf & Country Club is situated on Suffolk's scenic north shore in Mount Sinai and opened in 2005 as one of Long Island's newest golf courses. The course was designed by architects Stephen Kay and Doug Smith. The layout comprises 18 holes with a par of 71 and measures 6,611 yards. Kay created a resort-style layout that resembles a lush Florida golf course, with the course adorned with abundant willow trees and rewarding accuracy through a wide variety of elevations and hazards, while water features appear on 12 holes and play a prominent role in the course's aesthetics and strategy.
The course stands out for its abundance of both sand and water, with nearly 100 bunkers and lightning-fast, wildly undulating greens that present a formidable test for even the best players. The most challenging hole is the par-5 9th, measuring 570 yards from the back tees with water looming on both sides of the fairway. The signature par-3 16th hole features an island-like green surrounded on three sides by water.
The course was recognized as a qualifying site for the 2011 New York State Open and voted to the Newsday and Golfing Magazine "Dream 18" lists. It is the recipient of the prestigious 2023 Reader's Choice Award.
