The Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh

The Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh, founded in 1735, is recognized as the oldest golf club in the world. Located at Barnton on Edinburgh's west side, approximately five miles from the city centre and Edinburgh Airport, the course is set in beautiful parkland within a predominantly urban context.

The course was originally designed by legendary Scottish golf architect Willie Park Jr. and is regarded as one of Scotland's finest parkland courses. The layout accommodates golfers of all abilities and maintains exceptionally high greenkeeping standards with immaculate presentation of both the course and surrounding grounds.

Situated in scenic parkland, the course offers an unexpectedly serene experience despite its proximity to the city. The club has relocated twice historically—from its earliest homes at Bruntsfield Links and old Musselburgh—before establishing at its current Barnton location.

The clubhouse, built in the late Victorian period, represents outstanding Arts and Crafts architecture and houses significant golfing artifacts and historic trophies. The club hosts various competitions, including the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Schools Tournament, and offers comprehensive facilities including a dining room, bars, and a halfway house. Professional services include tuition, equipment rental, and club repairs.
