The Golf Course at Glen Mills is an 18-hole facility featuring 6,636 yards for a par of 71, designed by Robert Weed and opened in 2000. Located in Pennsylvania's historic Thornbury Township, the course sits about 40 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. The course is cut into a valley with substantial elevation change, and sprawling bunkers add uncertainty to many shots. The front nine begins in a meadow before transitioning into forested areas, while the back nine plays along wetlands, creeks and ponds and is a full 300 yards shorter than the front.
The course features plenty of elevation changes and gorgeous bunkering that resembles Pete Dye's style and contributes to difficulty. Elevation changes and uphill approach shots are frequent across this par-71 layout. Notable features include two Raynor template holes: a Redan and Biarritz.
The course has hosted the US Amateur Qualifier (2009), US Open Qualifier (2006), PGA Tour Saturday Series (2002), and US Amateur Public Links Qualifier (2001). It is part of the nation's oldest (1826) residential facility for wayward youths, Glen Mills, and doubles as a rehabilitative training ground combining great golf with a great cause.
