The General is an 18-hole course featuring 6,820 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course was designed by Andy North and Roger Packard and opened in 1997, consistently ranking among Golf Digest's top 100 courses. Located in Galena, Illinois at 444 Eagle Ridge Drive, the course is situated in the scenic bluffs of northwestern Illinois.

The course features a 289-foot elevation change from the first hole to the 18th, providing spectacular views of the tri-state area. The layout features tee boxes carved into hillsides and rolling fairways bordered by tall fescue and heather. Strategic shot-making is required throughout the course, which is characterized by tight fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole is #5, a par 4 with 180 feet of elevation change from tee to green. The course has ranked inside the top 20 best in state multiple times since 1999.
