The North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club opened for play in 1923 and was designed by Willie Park. Par for the course is 70, and from the back tees the course plays to 7,157 yards. The course features a widely varied piece of Midwestern topography, with several holes traversing old farmland while the strongest holes loop around ridges that feature a serpentine creek that comes into play. Located in Olympia Fields, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, about 25 miles (40 km) south of The Loop.
The North Course is ranked among the top 50 golf courses in the United States and was renovated in preparation for the 2003 U.S. Open, but remains true to Willie Park's vision with testing bunkers and treacherous greens. The land has only 42 feet of elevation change, with greens averaging 5,240 square feet in size and well protected by an average of three greenside hazards, while the fairway acreage totals 21 acres. The course has rolling parkland with a handful of steep putting surfaces and a standout hole in the big par-4 14th, with its second shot over a creek to an elevated green.
The North Course hosted the 1928 U.S. Open (won by Johnny Farrell), the 1997 U.S. Senior Open (won by Graham Marsh), the 2003 U.S. Open (won by Jim Furyk), and the 1925 and 1961 PGA Championships. The course also hosted the U.S. Senior Open (1997), the U.S. Amateur (2015), and the 2017 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. In 2017, Olympia Fields North was the site of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and the course hosted the 2020 and 2023 BMW Championship.
