The Garden Course ☆ Follow

Located in Shah Alam, Selangor, the Garden Course is a 6,404-metre, par-72 layout designed by American architect Max Wexler. Established in 1993 as part of the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, the course is set within a 450-acre landscape featuring lush greenery, serene waterways, and undulating terrain. The fairways are planted with Bermuda Tifway 419, while the greens utilize Bermuda Tifdwarf, offering course ratings that range from a 69.5 on the white tees to a 74 on the black tees. The course presents a significant challenge through its elevation changes and water hazards. The fourth hole, ranked as the number one handicap hole, is a demanding par-4 that requires an elevated tee shot onto a side-hill fairway sloping right to left, leading to an uphill approach on an elongated green. The tenth hole introduces a lake that traverses the fairway 230 metres from the tee, with the water also lurking behind the green to penalize overshoots. The eleventh hole features a reachable par-5 where power hitters must carry a vast expanse of water to reach a peninsular green guarded by bunkers on both sides. Notable holes include the second, a par-3 that plays downhill to a green surrounded by three bunkers and overlooking the clubhouse and lake fountain, and the twelfth, an uphill par-3 playing to a two-tiered green. The first hole offers a contrasting challenge as the shortest par-4, playing downhill to a wide fairway before an uphill approach to a green guarded by a long bunker on the right. The course’s design incorporates significant elevation changes, with several holes playing uphill or downhill, and greens that feature multiple levels and subtle breaks. Glenmarie Golf & Country Club opened its doors in January 1994 and has since hosted various local and international golfing events. The club has established itself as a preeminent venue in South Asia, preferred by prestigious golfing bodies for hosting championships. The course’s reputation is supported by its status as one of the leading golf facilities in the region, attracting both amateur and professional players seeking a challenging yet scenic round.
