Saxon Woods Golf Course was designed by golf course architect Tom Winton and opened to the public in 1931. Located in Scarsdale, New York, the course is one of six public golf courses run by the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. The 18-hole course can be played at three yardages—5,375, 6,038, and 6,293 yards—and features a par-72 layout with trees, rough, and out of bounds as main defenses.
The course's rolling, wooded landscape gives it tremendous character, and it exudes a vintage parkland aura with narrow fairways and elevated greens on rolling terrain that is very walkable. Water in the form of a creek factors into play on a handful of holes, while bunkers are shallow and not overly penalizing. The signature hole is the par-3 16th, a downhill tee shot to a postage stamp-sized green protected by bunkers on both sides.
All of Saxon Woods' tees have been completely renovated, along with several greens. For a course that is so heavily played, Saxon Woods earns plaudits for its greens and overall conditions.
