Sashima Country Club is a 18-hole championship course located in Bandō, Ibaraki Prefecture, designed by Nippon Dokuho Co., Ltd. and opened in November 1998. The course is classified as a forest-style layout, featuring rolling terrain with gentle undulations that hide dynamic strategic elements typical of American-style design. The fairways and greens are characterized by subtle slopes and strategic water hazards, including creeks and ponds that define the routing of many holes. The course is set up with a total par of 72, divided into an outward nine of 36 and an inward nine of 36. The design incorporates significant water features, with several holes requiring shots over water or alongside creeks. Notable challenges include the par-4 3rd hole, which demands a tee shot over a pond, and the par-4 5th, where a creek runs along the right side for approximately 150 yards. The par-5 6th hole presents a straightaway challenge with a creek flowing from the left front to the back left of the green, while the green itself is split into two tiers. The back nine features the course’s signature par-3, the 15th hole, which requires a carry over water to a well-protected green. The 13th hole, a par-5, is noted for its high difficulty, with a creek on the right and bunkers on the left, leading to a green guarded by water on the right and rear. The 18th hole, another demanding par-5, finishes the round with a creek crossing 60 yards from the green and a two-tiered putting surface. Greens at Sashima Country Club are bentgrass, cut at 3.4mm, with a target speed of 9.2 on the stimpmeter. The course accommodates both caddie-assisted and self-guided play, with handicap certificates available for players with a HD of 15 or lower. The facility includes a driving range with nine bays covering 100 yards and a restaurant offering views of the course. Access is convenient from the Koga Station or via the Jo-Koga and Bandō interchanges of the Kan-Etsu Expressway.
