Pontefract and District Golf Club is located in West Yorkshire near the historic market town of Pontefract, easily accessible from the M62 and A1. Golf has been played at the site since 1904, initially as a nine-hole course on parkland. A new course was established in the early 1920s on adjoining land, and around a decade later it was extended to 18 holes based on a design by Dr. Alistair MacKenzie, the renowned architect responsible for Augusta National, Cypress Point, and Royal Melbourne.
The course underwent major re-routing in the late 1990s, with the first three holes relocated to newly purchased land. The layout features gently undulating terrain with holes of considerable character. The course presents a fair golfing challenge across its 18 holes, offering varied and interesting play throughout the round.
