Mountain Greens is an 18-hole course located in McGaheysville, Virginia, featuring 6,464 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer. The course opened in 1972. The course measures 6,443 yards from the blue tees, 6,087 yards from the white tees, 5,608 yards from the gold tees, and 4,846 yards from the ladies tees.
The course features very hilly topography with quite a few elevation changes, plenty of woods, many tree-lined fairways, as well as steep drop-offs on the peripheries and meandering streams that frame many of the fairways. Mountain Greens is known for its steeply terraced tees and fairways, with tumbling topography that provides a true test for those who want to master fairway speed and tight angles. There are several blind shots off the tee as well as a few blind approaches.
The signature hole is the par-3 Number 8 at 140 yards, which plays uphill requiring an extra club off the tee. It features an "M" shaped bunker short of the green, and from the tee golfers can admire views of the surrounding area. Hole 13 is a 410-yard par-4 challenge and the number 1 handicap hole on the course.
