The Avalon Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout designed by Peter Matkovich, situated in the Bois Cheri area of Mauritius. The course is characterized by an open, rolling terrain with very few trees lining the fairways, a design choice intended to enhance playability and provide unobstructed views. The elevated nature of the estate places the course in a setting surrounded by the ocean to the south and the mountains surrounding Grand Bassin, the largest natural lake in Mauritius, to the north. The design incorporates the local climate conditions, with holes engineered to play both with and against the prevailing winds that are common due to the altitude. The landscape is supplemented by local flora, particularly numerous tree ferns, which add texture to the unique layout. The course is positioned to offer views of the rising sun for early starters and the majestic mountain ranges in the opposite direction. Avalon Golf Estate has achieved GEO Certified status, becoming the first course in the Indian Ocean and only the third on the African continent to receive this accreditation for sustainable golf course operation. The facility supports golfers of all levels, from beginners to advanced players, through a range of programs including individual lessons, video swing analysis, and coaching using the SNAG system. Practice facilities include a full-length 280-metre driving range with grass and synthetic mats, a large chipping green designed to USGA specifications with two bunkers, and two putting greens. The estate also features an undercover practice area to accommodate weather conditions. The course is managed by Head PGA Professional Florent Toulet, who oversees the coaching programs and technical advice for members and visitors.
