The Glenmorangie Open is an 18-hole individual strokeplay competition for male golfers, played from the orange tees on the Championship Course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club on Sunday 30th August 2026. The event is open to male golfers holding a current WHS Handicap Index between 10.6 and 24.0, who are members of at least one recognised golf club affiliated to a national Golf Association. Entries from golfers solely affiliated with OpenPlay (Scotland), iGolf, FlexiGolf, Links Golf (USA), or Union Clubs (USA) are not accepted. The competition is balloted, with entries closing on 2nd July 2026 and the ballot taking place on 25th June 2026 at 5pm BST. The starting field is limited to 84 competitors. Entry fees are £108 for visitors, £72 for Struie members, and £36 for members. Entries must be submitted electronically via Golf Genius; in-person, email, or telephone entries are not accepted. Acceptance does not guarantee a place; successful entrants are notified on 26th June 2026. Unsuccessful entrants are placed on a waiting list. Tee times are allocated by 21st August 2026 and are randomly generated, with an option to request early, late, or specific times and to state travel partners. All competitors must play the competition in its entirety, including any weather delays. Distance measuring devices are permitted provided they do not measure elevation changes or interpret directional information. The overall handicap winner receives the Glenmorangie Trophy. In the event of a tie, the winner is determined by countback on the back nine, then back six, back three, and finally hole-by-hole from the 17th to the 1st. Prize winners are expected to attend the prize-giving ceremony; failure to attend without good reason may result in a three-year ban from this event. Withdrawals before the draw is published receive a full refund; withdrawals after the draw may receive a 75% refund if the space can be filled, or a full refund in exceptional circumstances. Late arrival penalties follow R&A Rules: up to 5 minutes late incurs a 2-stroke penalty, 5 minutes or more results in disqualification. The defending 2025 champions are allocated a place if they choose to enter.

Royal Dornoch Championship Course

Dornoch, Highland, Scotland

Royal Dornoch Championship Course is one of the world's finest links courses, located on the north shore of the Dornoch Firth in the Scottish Highlands. Extended from nine to 18 holes by Old Tom Morris in 1886, the course stretches along a dramatic, windswept beach with stunning views across the Firth and gorse-clad hillsides. The Championship Course presents a quintessential links challenge set across natural, tiered linksland. Its challenging nature is amplified by the exposed coastal setting and demanding conditions characteristic of championship links courses. The course has maintained its prominence on world top-10 lists, with recent modifications made to the 7th and 8th holes to ensure future relevance. The course's prestige is underscored by its history—golf has been played here since 1616, and the club was formally established in 1877. Notable golf legends including Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw, and Jack Nicklaus have played Royal Dornoch. Donald Ross, a native of Dornoch, began his legendary design career as greenkeeper and professional at the club. The dramatic location and natural amphitheatre of linksland create an iconic and formidable golfing experience.
