Holes are generally short and run up and down the hillside, some sharply, affording views of the Columbia. Both courses are equally challenging, mostly for beginners, but fun for all. Tee boxes are mats. The main hazards are encroaching blackberry bushes. The original 18-hole course was built in 1998 and redesigned in 2007. The property was formerly the county poor farm from 1911 to 1982. The courses wind around the back and sides of the McMenamins Edgefield hotel, restaurants, brewery, and distillery.
