The Wee course is a six-hole, par 3 course located at the Machrie hotel on the Isle of Islay, Scotland, just a two-minute walk from the hotel. Designed by David J. Russell, a two-time European Tour winner, the course features no bunkers and minimal rough, eliminating lost balls.
The course is specifically designed as an accessible golfing experience for players of all abilities and ages, particularly appealing to families and beginners. It functions as an introductory links golf experience, allowing golfers to develop short game skills through bump-and-runs and pitch shots from grassy hollows without facing lengthy par 4s or forced carries.
The layout offers flexible play, with hole distances ranging from short pitches to approximately 210 yards. While a prescribed routing exists daily, four different course configurations can be presented—named after golf legends James Braid, Harry Vardon, J.H. Taylor, and Willie Campbell. When privately booked, players can choose any tee to any green combination, providing up to 36 potential hole options.
The course exemplifies Russell's design philosophy of creating an intimidation-free environment where people of any golf experience level, including children experiencing links golf for the first time, can enjoy the game without requiring a full set of clubs or adhering to dress codes.
