Set among the mountains of apple country in northwestern Adams County, this target style course has a wide variety of holes to appeal to golfers of all levels. Scenic views and elevation changes enhance the golfing experience. Significant old growth forest combines with prominent orchards throughout the course for the unique and appealing layout that led to the name Piney Apple. The course rating is 61.4 with a slope rating of 113. The course is not extremely long in comparison to others, putting a strong emphasis on decision making off the tee. Standing on the first tee provides a breathtaking view of a valley of orchards and a surrounding skyline of mountains of Central Pennsylvania. Significant elevation changes of the 12th and 18th holes make them signature examples of the unique vistas and target nature of the course. The sixth hole provides a unique risk/reward scenario and typifies the target nature of the course. The hole is a sharp dogleg left with specimen trees and an orchard on the left boundary. Long ball hitters may attempt to drive the ball over the dogleg, but the specimen trees are quite large. A grass bunker awaits shots that barely clear these obstacles. Beyond the dogleg is a water hazard on the right, which makes distance control off the tee critical. The sloped green is one of the many elevated surfaces on the course and makes accuracy of the second shot important. The architecture of the hole provides for a variety of choices and strategies for players of all skill levels.
