Mana Country

千葉県

Located in Moba, Chiba, Mana Country is a golf facility comprising two distinct courses: the 27-hole Manna Course and the 18-hole Manna Gary Player Course. The Manna Course, which opened on November 14, 1976, was designed by Kazusuke Izumi and Michio Izumi. It is divided into three nine-hole loops known as the Kobushi, Tsutsuji, and Kusunoki courses. The layout is characterized by a flat, orthodox design featuring a mix of Bentgrass and Korail greens. The Kobushi loop is noted for its magnolia trees, the Tsutsuji loop for its azaleas, and the Kusunoki loop for its harmony between forest and lake. The Manna Gary Player Course is an 18-hole layout designed by Gary Player, who is credited as the sole designer of a course bearing his name in Japan. This course features wide Bentgrass greens and fairways with excellent drainage that allow for cart access regardless of the season. The terrain includes downhill middle holes with views of the Boso Peninsula and short holes where red sand runs along both sides. The course offers five sets of tees, ranging from the Black tees at 6,826 yards to the Pink tees at 4,919 yards. Difficulty and yardage vary significantly across the facility. The Manna Course loops range from approximately 6,072 to 6,335 yards from the back tees, with course ratings between 68.6 and 72.4. The Gary Player Course presents a longer test, with the Black tees stretching to 6,826 yards and a course rating of 73.2. Specific holes are highlighted for their characteristics; for instance, the 7th hole on the Gary Player Course is a 626-yard par 5 from the Black tees, while the 3rd hole is a demanding 166-yard par 3. The facility also includes a driving range and is part of the larger Resol no Mori resort complex.

Mana Golf Club

茨城県

Located in Hitachi-Omi, Ibaraki Prefecture, Mana Golf Club is a 72-par, 6,837-yard course designed by Fujio Ishii, a consultant for the Japan Professional Golf Association. The layout is divided into a front nine and a back nine, each carrying a par of 36, with yardages varying by tee box from the back tees at 6,837 yards down to the ladies' tees at 5,678 yards. The course is characterized by its strategic demands, featuring numerous out-of-bounds areas that require precise shot placement rather than raw power. The front nine presents a mix of long par-fours and challenging par-fives. The opening hole is a 477-yard par 5 that plays straight but demands a conservative approach to the center of the fairway to avoid left-side out-of-bounds. The fourth hole, a 456-yard par 4, serves as the handicap 1 hole, featuring a right dogleg where the fairway narrows and out-of-bounds lines both the left side and the mountainside on the right. The ninth hole, a 502-yard par 5, is highlighted as a drive-distance recommended hole, requiring a precise tee shot to the center of the fairway to set up an approach to the green. The back nine introduces significant elevation changes and blind shots. The eleventh hole is a 227-yard par 3 played from an elevated tee, with out-of-bounds flanking both sides and a green that slopes away from the player, necessitating careful distance control. The thirteenth hole is a 546-yard par 5 dogleg left, where the second shot plays uphill and requires accurate club selection. The sixteenth hole, a 572-yard par 5, is a right dogleg where players must wait for a signal before teeing off, with out-of-bounds guarding the left side of the approach. Signature challenges include the twelfth hole, a 442-yard par 4 that plays left dogleg with out-of-bounds surrounding the tee shot and the green, and the fourteenth hole, a short 356-yard par 4 with narrow fairways and a steeply sloped green. The eighteenth hole concludes the round with a 199-yard par 3, where the large green and varying pin positions test the player's distance management and club selection under pressure. The course design emphasizes accuracy and strategic course management over length, with out-of-bounds areas penalizing errant shots throughout the layout.

Manakiki Golf Course

OH

Manakiki Golf Course is an elegant 18-hole public course located 17 miles east of downtown Cleveland in the North Chagrin Reservation. Designed by the renowned Donald Ross, the classic layout offers diverse challenges including doglegs, water hazards, uphill and downhill shots, back-to-back par 5s, and notably two canyon holes at the 10th and 18th. The 200-acre course occupies the former summer estate of Cleveland industrialist Howard Hanna, with its clubhouse built from the expanded Hanna Mansion. Manakiki opened to public play on January 1, 1961, and hosted the Carling Open in the 1950s. Hole #8 was considered the tour's most difficult par 4 at that time, while hole #15 ranks among Cleveland's best par 3 holes. The striking canyon holes at 10 and 18 provide an exceptional start and finish sequence. A comprehensive 1990 master plan restored much of the original Ross character, including rebuilt tees, new irrigation systems, and restoration of strategic bunkers and ponds.

The course is known for its demanding nature, requiring precision and course management to navigate effectively.
