Heron's Reach Golf Course

Lancashire

Herons' Reach Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland course measuring approximately 6,200 yards, located at East Park Drive, Blackpool, Lancashire, within a 236-acre estate just three miles from Blackpool town centre. The course was designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark and, despite its parkland and lakes setting, carries a notably open, near-links character. Ten small lakes and extensive grass-fronted bunkering are distributed throughout the layout, creating consistent strategic demands across the round. Fairways are generally tight, leading to USGA-specification greens with subtle undulation. The terrain is gently rolling rather than dramatically contoured, making the course accessible on foot. The Blackpool Tower is visible from several points around the course, with the clearest sightline from the 14th hole. The par-3 16th is the most frequently cited individual hole, playing from an elevated tee over water to a narrow, well-protected green. Several holes feature pronounced doglegs, including one sharp 90-degree turn from an elevated tee. The course rating is 73.1 with a slope of 137 from the back tees, indicating a meaningful test relative to its length. The course has hosted numerous PGA North Region Championship events over the years. The resort includes hotel accommodation, a driving range, and extensive leisure facilities.

Hershey Country Club

PA

Hershey Country Club is a country club located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which was founded in 1930 by Milton S. Hershey. The club is a private, premier golf and recreation club with two championship level courses. The club has two 18 hole golf courses; the 6,860-yard, par 73 West Course which was designed by Maurice McCarthy circa 1930, and the 7,061-yard, par-71 East Course which was designed by George Fazio in 1969. The West Course is a romping parkland set about the hills and their glens. The diagonals and angles used in conjunction with the hills and water features instill a lot of its identity while the greens move a lot more intricately than they appear. While the trees are usually close at hand, there is sufficient width for various playing corridors throughout. The signature hole of the West Course is the par-3 fifth hole with High Point Mansion, Milton S. Hershey's former home, as a spectacular backdrop. Designer George Fazio captured the natural beauty of central Pennsylvania's countryside with views that golfers can appreciate on every hole. The East Course boasts numerous natural hazards, rolling fairways, and daunting greens, stretching 7,061 yards with a rating of 74.5 and a slope of 136. The golf course in the club hosted the PGA Championship in 1940, which Byron Nelson defeated Sam Snead on the par 3 12th hole in a playoff and won and the Hershey Open from 1933 to 1941. The PGA Championship was contested on the West Course and the LPGA Lady Keystone Open was held on the course for almost 20 years. The club also hosted a Nationwide Tour event for eight years and the Pennsylvania Open Championship 15 times. In 1941 Ben Hogan became the Head Golf Professional and served until 1951. Designed by the American firm Nicklaus Design, the 1,600-acre property is situated in the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta, approximately an hour's drive from major cities like Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai. The course is built on a hilly terrain, with fairways winding through native pine and acacia trees and integrating natural reservoirs. The layout is characterized by its mountainous style and undulating topography. Greens are described as having a "chip" shape with significant elevation changes and varying slopes, demanding high precision and stability from players. The turf throughout the tees, fairways, and greens consists of pure American Coastal Bermuda grass, maintained to create fast and challenging green speeds. The course features several notable signature holes that test different aspects of a golfer's game. The 5th hole, a par-4, offers birdie opportunities but requires a precise drive over right-side bunkers to secure an excellent angle for the approach shot; the left side is considered safer but leaves a more difficult second shot due to a severe back-to-front slope and a large bunker on the left. The 15th hole is a dramatic par-5 that plays uphill from the lowest point of the course to a summit green, featuring a large pot bunker on the right that guards the approach. The 18th hole, a par-4, serves as a visually striking and highly challenging finisher that demands exacting accuracy on the approach shot.
