The course is part of The Villages, a large, master-planned retirement community 45 miles northwest of Orlando. The Lakes and Oaks nines play fairly tight, while the Palms Course offers wider fairways with more elevation changes allowing for a more forgiving yet still challenging game. Golfing legend Chi Chi Rodriguez said the mirrored holes at Hacienda are two of his all-time favorite holes of golf. The opening holes for the Oaks and Lakes nines are two par 5s set parallel to each other and that share a green, so while there are 27 holes at Hacienda, there are just 26 greens. The course features distinctive design characteristics with its varied nine-hole layouts providing different playing experiences for golfers of varying skill levels.
