Virginia Golf Club

Virginia Golf Club is Brisbane's oldest and most celebrated golf course, located in Banyo on Elliott Road. Established in 1928, the club began as a 9-hole course designed by D.A. Crawford and officially opened by Sir James Blair in 1929. The 18-hole layout was completed in 1933. The course was expanded significantly in the late 1950s with reticulation from Downfall Creek and additional land acquisitions.

Known as "The Course of Champions," Virginia has hosted numerous accomplished golfers throughout its history. Notable alumni include Greg Norman, who competed there in 1972-1973, and Wayne Grady in 1976-1977. The club has produced two Australian Amateur Champions: Jack Rayner (1955) and Andrew Buckle (2001). The current clubhouse was opened by Brisbane's Lord Mayor Clem Jones in 1969.

The course presents a challenging layout that has served as a training ground for rising golf stars seeking to launch professional careers. Virginia Golf Club remains a significant venue for competitive golf in Queensland, hosting various tournaments and competitions throughout the year.
