Royal Queensland Golf Club is a premier 18-hole championship course located in Eagle Farm, Brisbane, established in 1920 and granted its Royal Charter in 1921. Originally designed by Carnegie Clark, the Australian Open Champion, the course was officially opened by the Governor-General Lord Forster in 1921. The layout occupies approximately 97 hectares (reduced from the original 420 acres) fronting the Brisbane River on what was known as Parker Island.
Dr Alister MacKenzie, the renowned Scottish golf architect, visited Brisbane in 1926 and contributed his design expertise to several holes, noting the course "already compares favourably with some of the British Championship courses." The course is recognized as Queensland's number one golf course and is renowned for its challenging layout and pristine conditions.
As a private members club, Royal Queensland offers comprehensive facilities including top-tier practice areas, a dedicated teaching facility, and a clubhouse. The club also provides tennis courts and comprehensive golf instruction from experienced professionals. The course presents a substantial test of golf suitable for players of all levels, combining strategic design with championship-standard maintenance.
